This guide aims to assist you when providing designs for web projects with TheDigitalCube. We will update it regularly in order to stick with best practice. If you have any suggestion on how to improve this guide, please let us know at contact@thedigitalcube.com.
Requirements
- All designs must be provided in Photoshop® (.psd) format, compatible for Photoshop® CS5 and above
- The dimensions of the Photoshop® file must be the final dimensions for the project. For instance, if you are designing a website page, the width of a design would be 1800px for full-screen designs or around 1000-1200px for a design with a container.
- The color mode must be RGB, CMYK color mode is not accepted.
- The text elements must be editable with PhotoShop and not be flattened layers.
- Please do not use the layer blend modes, we can't keep these effects when exporting the layers.
- Please do not hotlink the assets, merge/pixellise them instead. This is to prevent the loss of color modes when exporting them.
- Ensure that you have the rights to use all fonts in the designs and please include them together with the .psd file. If you do not have rights for a specific font, please let us know what is the corresponding Google font that we should use to replace it.
- If your text has a solid color fill and you wish to replace it by another solid color fill, do not use the color overlay to alter its color, please use the text color tool instead.
Best practice
The following elements are not required, however they are a essential if you are looking to provide the best graphic assets. Complying with these rules will make sure that we work more efficiently and help us deliver the best content possible. By doing so, you will help the project go smoother and we will definitely let the client know!
- Tidy the different layers in folders with a comprehensive label for each folder (for instance "Headline", "Menu", "Promo"...)
- Rasterize the layers of imported files. For instance, it is common to import a model image with larger dimensions than what is necessary for a particular project. We recommend to rasterize this image after resized it in order to make the Photoshop® file lighter.
